Some of our pictures from Trinidad

Here are a few of our pictures from Trinidad. Click the links at the bottom of the page to see more pictures and exciting reports.

Louise on the balcony Louise on the balcony of our apartment in Glencoe, Trinidad (a suburb of Port of Spain). It overlooked La Horquette Valley (in the background) and the Caribbean Sea (off to the left, out of view of the picture). From this vantage point, we had an endless concert of bird songs, roosters crowing, dogs barking and occasional loud music. But at least the view was nice.
Brian off to work Brian setting off for work in the car (a new Nissan Almera, supplied by Fujitsu).
by our local Mac's Milk store Louise on her way back from doing the shopping at our local convenience store (painted yellow). It was 32 deg. and sunny every day -- too hot to do much work outdoors.
live steel pan Not far away, we saw this unique cultural event - a steel pan (drum) group entertaining at a local rum shop. It's not only great music, but it gives the teenage kids something fun to do.
Louise at Pitch Lake One of the most unusual places in Trinidad. Louise is wading at Pitch Lake, one of the world's major sources of asphalt. With a guide, you can walk across most of it. The 100-acre surface is firm asphalt, which is mined with backhoes every day. Louise wasn't knee-deep in pitch, but in fresh water that collects in shallow pools.
Mount Benedict One of the most beautiful places in Trinidad. It's Mount St. Benedict, a monastery up high in the Northern Range of mountains, which runs across the northern third of the country. We spent an afternoon hiking with our American friend David and his wife Maria (who took the picture).
